It'd be great if there could be feedback from others here on the list, what works, what doesn't, suggestions on how to improve things so the paper is more clear/organized/interesting. I think we need more people than just myself and alasdair doing copy editing, so maybe we need to have an earlier deadline so either some sort of editable pdf (i think that exists) or probably preferably a copy of the Quark file of the paper can be sent to more people, who can have more fresh/removed/awake minds to edit it with. I see a lot of little things that slipped past us I think just as a result of kind of LIVING the paper for several days straight almost, and people who hadn't stared at the paper contents for hours on end might have picked up immediately. So - if you can think of ways to improve the paper, and/or can get involved on the copy editing side (meaning you'll have to have a way to view and edit a copy of the Quark file - i'll leave it up to our tech people on how to best make that possible. You'll probably also need a basic knowledge of how to use Quark - maybe we can get together a mini-training ) Other IMC print teams are all able to gathering in a central layout office to put together the paper, but i think, due to the distance between all of us in the state, it'd only feasably work by somehow sharing the editing online. Ok, that's my thoughts for all. I hope the problems in this issue of the paper (most notably in my written-too-late-at-night-wish-it-hadn't-been-a-front-page- feature-lobster-article) doesn't lose readership/trust in the paper. ah well, hillary From acpquinn@middlebury.edu Wed, 24 Apr 2002 14:57:59 -0400 Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 14:57:59 -0400 From: acpquinn@middlebury.edu acpquinn@middlebury.edu Subject: [Meimc-publication] deadline for next maine commons issue hey all -- just a reminder to all people writing for the next issue of the maine commons: the deadline for submission is may 8th -- only 2 weeks from now! so get writing! also, this next issue will take our funding down to close to zero. so those who needed an excuse to get out and get ads for the paper -- this is your excuse. also, if there is one among you who wants "the job" -- which means more money for you and more responsibility and more travel, speak up now -- there's still time to get a bunch of ads for the next issue. those who need the ad form and guidelines for selling ads, contact me and i will send them. thanks, alasdair
