Hey there, Sorry about the weirdness with the crediting. It was basically included because you were the first and only person to actively edit any articles, besides alasdair and myself - i think. I guess it's more of an editing team. And we're not sure how/what we should include for others - we credit all contributors who want to be credited (though we forgot to credit Ed Democracy this month, will add that as a correction next month), but all work on the paper itself (not general maine indymedia, that list would be massive) is done by the credited contributors, myself, alasdair, and as of last month, you. We originally were crediting tech team until it grew larger and a member of the tech team mentioned that the tech team didn't actually do anything with the paper, they work with the website and email lists and such, and if we were crediting that team, we should have to go on to credit the massive list of people who have helped out with maine indymedia in general, be it with audio, video, fundraising, distributing, etc. Well, distributors do directly help with the paper - but there is a large and ever changing group of distributors - maybe we should just list distribution point people for each region? Even that is very large. Or maybe credit no one other than contributors? But then that would ignore someone like alasdair who might not contribute any articles, but does massive work on layout. I'm not comfortable with the editors being this tiny little group that gets all the credit. Well, more people have offered to help with the editing work this month (if you have offered, and I haven't gotten back to you, please know I've just been overloaded with email, but I definitely want the whole editing process to become more open and participatory.) Ah....this is definitely something we need to figure out better, any thoughts? And to answer your last question, an editorial team is probably a subset of the print and web teams, though maybe it should be listed separately. be well, hillary >Hi, > >I'm fine editing a couple more articles (or more, if they're short), if >that would be helpful. > >RE: listing me as an editor - I'm honored - but I'm not really in a role >that warrants that - edited two articles and only one was in that >particular issue anyway. And I've never been to a meeting. And so many >other people work so hard, and their names aren't there. So I guess I'd be >more comfortable, unless my participation increases dramatically (unlikely >unless something else gives way), not being listed. (Though I have to >say, Tom Whitney was impressed: "What a feather in the cap of the Public >Interest Forum" he says . . . ) > >And then I started wondering if you could list all the distributors, >techies, etc., and also whether you might want to list "editorial team" >along with the other teams on the volunteer form. > >Hang in, > >Claire > From sterren@brandeis.edu Mon, 06 May 2002 13:12:01 -0400 Date: Mon, 06 May 2002 13:12:01 -0400 From: sterren sterren@brandeis.edu Subject: [Meimc-publication] May 8 Submission Deadline hey all, Just a reminder that May 8th is the deadline for submissions for the next issue of the Maine Commons. If you are planning to submit a piece, but need an extention, let me know ASAP. Also, we are without a DIY media column this month. If you can write a column on some aspect of DIY media that you're experienced with, please let me know - otherwise I'll try and find something to reprint from another source. More photos and political cartoons are also needed. be well, hillary
